Hi everyone once again, Thanks to those who have let me know they can help, along with those who highlighted their unavailability to assist with this event. We have a bit more information now and the event consist of 4 physical stages, each run twice. They are: SS1 / SS5 Pearces East Start & Stop SS2 / SS6 Tidbinbilla Start, SOS A, SOS B & Stop SS3 / SS7 Blue Range Start, SOS A & Stop SS4 / SS8 Bluetts Start & Stop HQ will be at Uriarra Village Hall and will need a minimum of 4 people, 6 would be better ! First car is due to start from Uriarra Village at 10:30 AM, though we will need to be up at running at HQ before 8:00 AM to run the Travellers Net as people head out to meet points. Car 40 (if they get that many entrants) is expected to start the last stage at 6:11 PM. Stage 1/5 should finish around 4:30 PM, Stage 2/6 should finish around 4:50 PM, Stage 3/7 should finish around 6:00 PM, and Stage 4/8 should finish around 6:45 PM. We need 3 additional people for field stations, and at least 3 more for HQ, hence this now traditional "begging" (or is that "nagging" ?) email If you can assist for the event, please let us know as soon as you can, that way we can place you on the roster to fill the vacancies. good morning (or afternoon, or evening, depending on when you read this) Apolopgies to those who see this twice, I am sending via the Wicen-members at crarc.ampr.org list as well as direct ! Well we have finally been contacted about assisting with the Light Car Club of Canberra (LCCC) annual Shannons Safari car rally which is scheduled for Saturday the 7th of July. Whilst full details are yet to be supplied, I can provide the following..... Start & Rally HQ is at the Uriarra Community Centre (School / Sports Ground) 8 Competitive stages for a total competitive distance of 115 Km, This will be a set of FOUR actual stages, each run TWICE. All stages in the Uriarra general area (no Kowen Forest) First car departs the start at 10:30 AM, meaning the 1st meet point time will be around 8:00 AM The event is limited to 40 competitors So, we will probably run 2 or 3 frequencies for the event, and at bear minimum we will need at least 8 field stations plus 4 people at HQ across the day. Help needed tomorrow (TUESDAY 10th April) to recover Tower & Antenna's from Exhibition Park.

Hi All, Well Easter is drawing to a close which means the National Folk Festival concludes today and we need to plan for the recovery of the Antenna Tower and Antenna's that we erected last Sunday. We need 3 or 4 people to assist with this task and hence this call for "HELP". It is recognised that many people will be back at work and so timing is flexible and we can delay until say 4:00 PM if we need to, but it would be nice if we could have the job done before lunchtime. I will be available to transport the parts once it is all dismantled, but we do need at least 2 other people for the actual lowering and dis-assembly part. So, Can you help ? Another call for the WICEN Exercise with the Canberra 2 Day Walk - March 31st / April 1st

Hi all, It is now just under 2 weeks until the Canberra 2 Day Walk, and we are suffering a sever shortage of volunteers so far and we do need to get a roster built for this years event. the walk weekend is Saturday 31st March and Sunday 1st April 2012. Check the website http://www.aussiewalk.com.au/ for info about the walk itself. Don't let the fact you haven't undertaken a WICEN event in the past, or maybe haven't done a 2 day walk before, it is pretty easy and you get some time out of the house playing radio ! As I have stood down as the State Coordinator & Matt VK1MA is busy with another competing activity, we need somebody to stick their hand up and become the "Exercise Coordinator" I will be away for the week leading upto the exercise, and for the weekend itself and so it cannot be left hanging !. The Exercise coordinator is the person that puts together the roster, and makes sure everyone knows where they need to be and so on, it is different to the "WICEN Commander" who is in charge of the Net Control Station and the efficient running on the day (we'd love somebody to volunteer for that too !) I am okay to assist and "Mentor" in these roles leading up to next Sunday, so anyone who does stick their hand up will not be left in the lurch with no support ! Okay, as far as I am aware, the 2 Day Walk will need 9 field stations on the Saturday & 6 on the Sunday, with a couple of people to do HQ / NCS each day. This is a little uncertain as we haven't seen a route map and checkpoint list as yet but I have been told it will be similar in most respects as the 2009 event. The organisers have had to do some re-routing of some walks due to the collapse of the riverbank near Duntroon ! So, who is able to assist with this years event ? Request for assistance - WICEN Exercise for the "Rallye des Femme" (Lady Drivers Rally)

Good afternoon all (well it is as I type this), Next Saturday (10th December) is the annual "Rallye des Femme" car rally. This small rally is designed for the long suffering Wives, Girlfriends, Partners and others to take over the rally car from the boys and get out to compete. It often attracts competitors from Sydney and the south coast in addition to the locals. The rally will be held out in Kowen forest and will consist of 3 stages, each to be run 3 times similar to last year. So we need 9 people for the field stations and 4-5 at HQ which will be on the hill near the old water tanks where we were for the last few events at Kowen - excellent view of the old "Rally of Canberra" jump and away from the noise and dust of the service park. So far we have had affirmatives from the following people.... Greg VK1BAT, Deane VK1DW, Ian VK1FMAC, Mark VK1HMS, Matt VK1MA, Peter VK1NPW, Phil VK1PL, Wayne VK1VNB & Bill VK1WPR. We have had a few of our regulars indicate they cannot assist as well. So, we are chasing another 4 or 5 people to come along and help out. Don't be shy, even if you have never done a WICEN event before don't worry, the duties and responsibilities are very easy and this is an ideal event to learn about what goes on. The meet times are 8:30 / 9:00 AM and the event should be over by 3:30 PM. I can think of a few reasons:- 1. They aren't interested in the comms side of these events. They just want to it work and turn their internal resources to whatever type of event it is. 2. CB, regardless if 27MHz or UHF would have great difficulty covering the area required during many (most?) of these events. You should know this. 3. CB repeaters are often supplied by CRARC, but are almost instant magnets for other "traffic". Have you ever listened to a UHF repeater near a population centre? Don't do it with your mother present.. 4. They could use mobile phones in some instances, as long as they have coverage and could absorb the costs. This would start to get very expensive given the short messages typical of these events (flagfall costs). 5. These groups like us for other reasons too. They need extra people and our mob free up their limited volunteer pool for other things. And what do the radio people get out of it? 1. Some people like operating equipment, and these events are a good excuse to actually do it. I like operating in the great outdoors, for instance. 2. Sometimes the club gets a donation. WICEN is the main reason we only pay $30 per year. We don't get a donation for everything, but some groups are good to us.
