Good evening all, with Spring approaching we have as usual a number of
activities that we have been requested to provide communications support
for. Events, dates and pertinent information (as currently known) are
provided below. If you are able to assist with any of these events, can you
please advise your availability for any of these via the WICEN email address
wicen(a)crarc.ampr.org <mailto:wicen@crarc.ampr.org> .
Sunday 27 September 2015 - Brookvale Horse Endurance ride.
The ACT Endurance Riders Association (ACTERA) conduct their annual horse
endurance ride based out of the Brookvale property (northwest of Uriarra on
Mountain Creek Road). This year we have been asked to provide communications
assistance on the Sunday when they conduct their longer rides. We anticipate
approximately three checkpoints and the headquarters needing to be manned,
approximately half a dozen operators. This is a slow paced event (from the
radio perspective), so ideal for newcomers to the WICEN side of the hobby to
gain experience that will be invaluable for the more hectic faster paced
events we also support.
Saturday 17 October 2015 - BMSC Tumut rally.
The Brindabella Motor Sports Club will hold a car rally event in the
forests on the Brindabella side of Tumut. Based on previous years, we
anticipate the need for around 15 operators to support this event. Although
a somewhat faster paced event, there are still multiple opportunities for
the non-experienced to participate and gain experience in passing
information at a faster rate.
Sunday 25 October2015 - Fitz's Challenge
Pedal power run this long distance bicycle event which starts and finishes
from the Stromlo cycle park. Cyclists ride up to 250km, heading as far South
as Rendezvous Creek on Boboyan Road south of Tharwa. Based on previous
years, we anticipate needing around 15 operators to support the event both
in the field and at the HQ at Stromlo cycle park.
Saturday 7 November 2015 - Call of the Beasts
Held at Caloola Farm (south of Tharwa), this obstacle "fun" race is held as
a fundraiser aimed at raising money for a number of charities who support
our returned servicemen and women. The event consists of about a 6 or 7km
long course with a number of obstacles along the way. This will be a
relatively slow paced activity (for us anyway) and shouldn't need much more
than 7 or 8 operators to provide the necessary communications support.
Saturday 14 November 2015 - Ralley Des Femmes
Another rally, but this time it is put on for the Ladies of the rally scene
will be held a little closer to town out in Kowen Forest. Minimal details
are available for this event, but expect it to consist of 3 stages each run
2 or 3 times and a total of 10-15 operators should be sufficient to run
communications for the event.
