Good evening all, we have two more events coming up over the next two weekends - the Horse carriage event at Witwood and Call of the Beasts at Caloola farm, for which a couple of extra operators would be handy to have, so if you are able to assist, extra volunteers would be very much appreciated. Please advise by email to wicen(a)crarc.ampr.org <mailto:wicen@crarc.ampr.org> The roster and supporting information for the Witwood event has been emailed direct to those people who I have down to support the event - if you have previously indicated your availability and I have missed including you, my apologies but could you please let me know again! Currently we have three spare slots to completely fill the roster and no backup operators - whilst workable in its current format, obviously not ideal, so we would definitely appreciate any additional assistance. The horse carriage event is a nice slow time affair, so offers a good easing introductory event to gain experience in WICEN activities for those lacking experience or confidence - again, any indications of availability or questions are best emailed to wicen(a)crarc.ampr.org <mailto:wicen@crarc.ampr.org> A roster and supporting information for the Call of the Beasts event will be sent out early next week. The only other event on the radar for the rest of the year is the Rally Des Femmes in early December, although I have yet to hear from the organisers of this event - further information will be passed once we hear from the organisers. Hi Glen Does your modelling take account of the potential absorption of RF due to the increased density of vegitation following the 2003 fires? At Kangaroo Creek I used a 3el yagi pointing at an exposed rock cluster on the south-east face of Billy Billy range around 1400 metres ASL. At 50 watts output I hit the Isaacs repeater but only in the horizontal plane. I had little to no reception in the vertical plane. The reflections off the rock face may have caused a polarisation change from vertical to horizontal, assuming the WICEN repeater antenna is vertical. WICEN support to Fitz's challenge communications - call for manning assistance

Good evening all, with Fitz's challenge coming up this weekend, we are still in need of more people to assist in manning the HQ and a couple of the checkpoints. At the moment, to fill the necessary positions, we need around an extra half a dozen people to help out. This time of the year is the peak period for WICEN supported activities (apparently Canberrans like to come out of winter hibernation and go out to play in the outdoors at this time of the year), so it can be a bit wearing to be spending multiple weekends in a row assisting with the various events. Any support would be appreciated. If anyone has the time to spare on Sunday, your assistance would be very much appreciated. We have supported this event for a number of years now and it would be a shame if we are not able to properly support the event this year. Also, if you will be available over the two following weekends to assist with the Whitwood horse carriage event or the Call of the beasts event, please let me know of your availability for those events as well please.
